Jennie Hill is the Director of Laotong Yoga, Inc. where she is excited to use her talents in a new role, teaching yoga inside of WV’s DCR correctional facilities and state certified recovery housing programs. She is the former Assistant Director for the West Virginia Alliance of Recovery Residences and helped establish the certification agency for recovery housing in WV (WVARR). Nationally, 80% of all residents living in recovery housing are mandated by the court system. Yoga is a perfect fit to enhance trauma-informed recovery programming. As leadership staff at the largest peer-led women’s recovery housing program in the state, Recovery Point Charleston, she built strong professional relationships within the community and keeps the goal of improving the quality of life for those with substance use disorders as her number one priority. She is reliable and passionate; with 10 years’ experience working in recovery programs and 11 years in her personal recovery, she fiercely advocates for the healing space created by holistic recovery pathways. Her educational background is in Interior Design, with a BA in Art from West Virginia State University. She currently sits on the Recovery Workgroup of the National Substance Use Disorder Strategic Advisory Panel for the Office of National Drug Control Policy. She achieved her 200-hour yoga teacher training certification in 2018 and researches the evidence-base for mindfulness and yoga’s role in healing trauma in her spare time.
